Ecologically Friendly / Environmental Policy
The Northern Lights Resort & SPA strives to reduce its overall waste and to recycle its garbage. It is also ecologically friendly in the following ways:
Please consider the protection of our environment. You must not pour out any liquids in the nature, such as cleaning agents or other waste products.Waste must not be thrown into the toilet or the sink. We remove your full trash bags daily. Please consider the waste separation: plastic & wrapping, paper & glass = blue bucket, residual waste & kitchen waste = garbage can.
Low Water Consumption – we are on a well water system and have a limited supply of fresh water. As a result we encourage guests to limit their water consumption by having short showers and turning off the taps while using the sinks. We also encourage our guest to use towels not only once, greatly reducing the amount of water we use for washing it.
All waste water is processed through our septic tank and sewage absorption bed, thus being cleaned and returned to the natural environment.
Low Energy Consumption – where possible we use high efficiency appliances, CFL and LED lights, and human manpower. The Resort is a outside of town setting, and at night most outside areas will be kept dark so that you can appreciate the Northern Lights, stars and the Milky Way galaxy.
Cleaning – while we endeavour to keep the Resort very clean, we do not change your bed sheets and towels every day. However if you wish to have your towels changed daily, please let us know. We use natural cleaning products where possible to clean all surfaces.
Certified locally Grown & Organic Foods – we try to buy most of our food from the local farmers market, or direct from certified producers and we grow our own organic herbs.
Light Vehicle Traffic – we minimize the trips we need to make with our van by maximizing the tasks we perform in one trip.
Support Local Economies – we make use of local businesses and services for all of our needs and supplies. Everything from food purchases, vehicle repairs and other supplies are performed or provided by people in our local community.
Promote Environmental Awareness and Wilderness Appreciation – we will happily answer your questions about the local environment, the wildlife and how to enjoy the outdoors by minimize the impact. We also have a number of animal and plant guide books that guests are free to utilize.
